Kenya has 47 counties, one of which being Nairobi City County. It is the most populous county while having the third-smallest area among the lot, with an anticipated 5,454,000 people living there in 2024. It also acts as Kenya’s capital. The Nairobi City Council, which had served as the long-standing local government body since before Kenya’s independence, was replaced by the county entity in 2013. Eighty-five electoral wards and eleven gazetted sub-counties make up the city county.
