Off the eastern coast of Africa sits the island nation of Mauritius, which is situated in the Indian Ocean. It is a component of the Mascarene Islands biologically. Port Louis serves as the capital.
In the Indian Ocean, Land Mauritius is located roughly 500 miles (800 km) east of Madagascar. Rodrigues Island, located around 340 miles (550 km) east of the main island, the Cargados Carajos Shoals, located 250 miles (400 km) northeast, and the Agalega Islands, located 580 miles (930 km) north of the main island, are its outlying territories. In addition, though Britain disputes it, Mauritius asserts its sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago, which includes Diego Garcia and is located around 1,250 miles (2,000 km) northeast of it.
