The most populous city in Nepal and the location of the federal government is Kathmandu, also known as Kathmandu Metropolitan City. In 105,649 houses, there were 845,767 residents as of the 2021 census, while the neighboring agglomeration contained about 4 million people. At an elevation of 1,400 meters (4,600 feet), it is situated in the Kathmandu Valley, a sizable valley encircled by hills on the high plateaus of central Nepal.
