Al Shahaniya, also known as Ash Shīḩānīyah in romanization, is a municipality in Qatar spanning 3299 km\. Its municipal seat is the corresponding city, which is located 39 km³ away. The municipal seat was established in 1988 by Law No. 22 and was once part of the municipality of Al Rayyan. It is currently a separate municipality [2].[3] 2014 saw the ratification of a draft by the cabinet that modified the 1988 statute, so establishing Al Shahaniya as the eighth municipality in Qatar.[4]

Meaning and Origin

The name of the beach sands near Umm Bab Al-Shahaniya’s Al Hamlah Water Well comes from a plant that is locally known as “sheeh” and was prized for its anti-inflammatory qualities.
