One of Sri Lanka’s nine provinces is the Central Province (Tamil: மத்திய மாகாணம் Madhdhiya Mākāṇam, Sinhala: මධ්‍යම පළාත Madhyama Paḷāta). With 2,421,148 residents and a 5,674 km2 size, the province is the second most populous in the nation. Since 1469, Kandy has served as its capital city.
