In the northern part of Taiwan is a unique municipality called New Taipei City. With a projected 4,004,367 residents as of January 2023, the city is Taiwan’s most populated city and its second-largest special municipality in terms of area, after Kaohsiung. The city of Taipei is entirely surrounded by the top-level administrative divisions that border Keelung to the northeast, Yilan County to the southeast, and Taoyuan to the southwest. These boundaries are what define New Taipei City. Its largest business district and municipal seat are located in Banqiao District.
