The capital of the United Arab Emirates’ emirate of Ajman is Ajman. It ranks fifth in size among the UAE’s cities, behind Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Al Ain. Situated near the Persian Gulf, its land is encompassed by the bigger emirate of Sharjah.

Meaning and Origin
Since the region was formerly home to Persians, the Arabic term عَجْمان (ʕajmān), which is linked to عَجَم (ʕajam, “foreigner”), is whence the word “Ajman” originates.
