Known by its letters RAK and originally called Julfar, Ras Al Khaimah is the capital and main city of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With 191,753 residents as of 2022, the city is the sixth most populated in the United Arab Emirates, behind Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ajman. A creek splits the city in two, with Al Nakheel located in the east and Old Town located in the west.

Meaning and Origin
“The headland of the tent” is how Ras Al Khaimah is referred to. The city is said to have gotten its name because someone set up a tent there to make it easier to navigate.
