The second-smallest and least populous emirate in the United Arab Emirates is Umm Al Quwain. Its area is roughly 720 square kilometers, or 1% of the total area of the United Arab Emirates.

Population 49,159 people were living in Umm Al Quwain as per the December 2005 census.

In mid-2010, there were 17,482 UAE nationals living in Umm Al Quwain, with 8,671 men and 8,811 women. The only emirate where there are more women than men is this one.

Place and topography
Situated between Ras Al Khaimah to the northeast and Sharjah to the southwest is Umm Al Quwain. Located on a small peninsula known as Khor Al Bidiyah sits the city of Umm Al Quwain.
