The state of New Mexico is located in the country’s southwest. It shares the Four Corners region with Utah, Colorado, and Arizona. It is one of the Mountain States in the southern Rocky Mountains. In addition, it shares boundaries with the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua to the south, Oklahoma to the northeast, and Texas to the east and southeast. The state capital of New Mexico is Santa Fe, which was established in 1610 as the administrative center of Nuevo México in New Spain. Albuquerque is the state’s largest city. Santa Fe is the oldest capital in the United States.

In terms of land, New Mexico is the fifth largest state among the fifty, but with a little over 2.1 million people, it comes in at number 36 and 46 in terms of population density.
